Metaphor Therapy employs highly skilled clinicians who are accruing hours toward licensure. MacKenzie meets with associates each week to discuss their cases and provide guidance to their therapeutic work. Working with a Metaphor associate means you get MacKenzie's energy in the room with you, which is often a good fit if her availability doesn't align with your needs. Please feel free to reach out to associates directly to explore fit and scheduling. Associates are unable to accept insurance but can provide receipts for you to submit to your insurance company, often called superbills, upon request.

My passion is in helping and providing space to heal others. I offer clients caring support in all facets of our work together. My therapeutic style is eclectic, incorporating existential, narrative, and cognitive behavioral therapies. When working with couples, I especially like to weave in values and attachment-based work. With families, I offer each individual space for them to process their concerns, needs, traumas, and challenges so they can better support each other. I can support with trauma processing, relational challenges, and behavioral issues, as well as anxiety and depression.
Sitting in nature, meditating, and hiking keep me grounded. I love to start sessions with a moment of mindfulness to support you in arriving to our time together. I offer therapy in English and Russian. I also know Hindi, Dari, and Armenian. I am competent in Afghani, Armenian, Russian, and many other cultures. I provide in-person care to adults, couples, and families at Metaphor's Alameda office. I look forward to hearing from you and meeting you!

I am passionate about biopsychosocialspiritual wellness and try to approach therapy with these aspects in mind especially during the treatment planning phase. I utilize CBT and DBT interventions while adapting treatments specific to the client’s cultural needs. My style of therapy includes being person-centered, culturally sensitive, and goal oriented. While I am open to working with a multitude of disorders, I have the most experience working with couples and families with historical trauma, childhood and adult trauma, sexual dysfunction, eating disorders and substance abuse. I hold a certificate in EMDR and Trauma-Focused CBT. I have been working as a therapist since 2012.
